IT Systems Engineer

About Ferocia

We're the team behind Up—but under the hood, we're Ferocia: a passionate tech company driven by innovation and financial empowerment.

In 2011, we cut our teeth crafting the first digital platform for Bendigo Bank. Building on that foundation, we later launched Up in 2018—a reimagined banking experience designed to bring financial freedom to a generation.

By 2021, we officially became part of the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Group, continuing our work on Up and building innovative financial software for everyone.

Sitting firmly in the sweet spot of a small company rhythm with the impact of a major player, we stay dedicated to empowering those who need it most.

As proud members of the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Group, we're committed to being carbon neutral, community-focused, and holding ourselves to the highest standards.

We love people who are willing to give it a crack—and even if you’re unsure we’re the right match on paper, throw your hat in the ring anyway. You might just surprise yourself.

The role

We’re a small team responsible for many systems that help to keep the Digital Division of Bendigo Bank running smoothly. We support 300 (and counting) Ferocians, so operating in a scalable way is critical to the success of this team.

You’re the right person for the job if you love to improve processes to make them simpler and more efficient. Our team loves to create new automations to reduce the busywork that we would otherwise need to do.

Our stack currently includes Okta as our identity provider, Jamf for device management, Google Workspace for collaboration and communication, Slack for communication, Notion for documentation and team processes, and Jira Service Management as our ticket tracking backend and Apple Macs as our supported hardware.

A typical day might consist of:

  • Responding to tickets from employees who need our help in person, on video calls, or via Slack.
  • Identifying improvement opportunities in our existing processes and making the changes.
  • Coming up with new ideas about how to improve the digital experience for all employees.
  • Onboarding new employees who join and offboarding employees who leave.
  • Replacing click-ops with automations.
  • Creating internal-to-the-team runbooks and documentation for other employees.
  • Ensuring that we have everything a new hire will need and ordering more equipment if required.
  • Conducting user access reviews.

We’re looking to improve our efficiency with infrastructure as code in the near future, and this will be a project that you will be working on starting in your first 3-6 months.

What we’re looking for

Required skills and experience:

  • 3+ years experience as a DevOps engineer, IT operations specialist, Technical Support Engineer, or similar role.
  • Familiarity with administering some of the tools in our stack (Okta, Jamf, Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, Jira Service Management).
  • Deep knowledge of the Apple ecosystem, including ability to troubleshoot Mac hardware and software.
  • Proficient in some scripting or programming languages (we typically use Bash and Ruby, but experience in other languages is fine).
  • Understanding of modern security best practices.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.

Nice to have, but not required:

  • Certifications in some of the tools in our stack (such as the Jamf 200 or Jamf 270).
  • Previous experience with managing Macs in a corporate environment.
In your first 3 months
  • Meet people! A huge part of this job is the relationships that we have with everyone else.
  • Ask questions. Fresh eyes are always helpful to realise when something (a process, a decision) doesn’t quite make sense.
  • Make a discovery or improvement and demo it to the company.
  • Start to answer IT support requests unassisted.
In your first 6 months
  • Participate in (or lead) an onboarding session on new hires’ first day.
  • Be responsible for delivering a project.
  • Be able to answer most types of IT support requests without assistance from the team.
Office days

Because of the nature of the work (supporting requests, running onboardings, distributing and receiving hardware) there are some in-office days expected. The team is regularly in the office on Tuesdays and Fridays, and it’s up to each person to decide where they would like to spend the rest of the days depending on what they’re working on.

Salary range

The estimated salary range for this role is $127,500 to $152,500, exclusive of superannuation.

Working at Ferocia

We have a hybrid work culture where people can attend the Ferocia office as much or as little as makes sense for them, but we are currently only hiring in Melbourne (or adjacent areas) as we still value physically getting together at least a half-dozen times per year.

We offer:

  • A small team of passionate people
  • Generous leave and parental policy
  • Flexible working schedule
  • Great city office and perks (rooftop, gym and personal trainer, games…)
  • Budget for personal development, training, and conferences
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Home loan rebates for our loans (conditions apply)
  • Ongoing equity grants (conditions apply)

Not quite ticking every box? Throw your hat in the ring anyway! At Ferocia, we’re all about shaking things up and rewriting the rules. We thrive on diversity and inclusion, and we wholeheartedly encourage you to step up and shine. Let us be the judge of your qualifications for this role - you just might surprise yourself!
